Private Cloud Engineer: Performance & Chaos Testing

We support the ISDS Institute in the search for applicants for this position. (from 1st January 2022 for an initial term of 2 years)

You would get the chance to work in the initiative Austrian DataLAB and Services funded by the Austrian Government to foster collaborative approaches between universities in the fields of DataScience and High Performance Computing (HPC). The explicit goal is to increase usability and we are looking for experienced engineers to help us build a prototypical federated private cloud and design best practices for its usage.

Tasks:

  • Design and implement application and infrastructure testing plans/models for our PaaS services
  • Be part of a platform team that implements and runs early stages of our IaaS and PaaS for a small set of (friendly) users
  • Propose, reason and implement your choices of open-source tools to ensure reliability
  • Test hypotheses about the goodness or quality of the test coverage
  • Improve our CI testing approach and make the test results actionable for other team members
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of release processes and to the security of our platform by designing tests for recovery from outages, application failures and malicious causes
  • Use Infrastructure as Code and gitOps to implement your concepts and document your chosen approach
  • Help establish a security first approach

Qualifications:

  • Several product cycles worth of experience in relevant roles using modern tech stacks
  • Excellent knowledge of tooling (open source preferred) around performance testing frameworks
  • Solid understanding of testing processes in CI/CD and experience with chaos testing is a big plus
  • Knowledge of at least one Cloud Stack (public or private) including hypervisors and container orchestration, networking basics
  • Prior experience with declarative infrastructure deployments
  • Good understanding of how architectural choices influence failure modes
  • Prior experience in YAML scripting for pipelines
  • Good grasp of Linux virtualization concepts and how to monitor it
  • Experience with Openstack is beneficial but not required
  • Knowledge of programming languages is highly beneficial
  • Solid knowledge of git
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and openly, especially during remote work & can-do attitude

We are required by law to specify the minimum gross salary according to the collective agreement, which is about 3.036,- Euros per month (14 times a year) for a full-time position (40h/w), depending on the professional experience. We are, however, willing to overpay the minimum gross salary depending on experience and qualifications.
