The known universe of reflection guidance: a literature review

International Journal of Technology Enhanced Learning, Inderscience Enterprises Ltd., 2016

Journal
Reflective learning has been established as a process that deepenslearning in both educational and work-related settings. We present a literaturereview on various approaches and tools (e.g., prompts, journals, visuals)providing guidance for facilitating reflective learning. Research consideredin this review coincides common understanding of reflective learning, hasapplied and evaluated a tool supporting reflection and presents correspondingresults. Literature was analysed with respect to timing of reflection, reflectionparticipants, type of reflection guidance, and results achieved regardingreflection. From this analysis, we were able to derive insights, guidelinesand recommendations for the design of reflection guidance functionality incomputing systems: (i) ensure that learners understand the purpose of reflectivelearning, (ii) combine reflective learning tools with reflective questions either inform of prompts or with peer-to-peer or group discussions, (iii) for work-relatedsettings consider the time with regard to when and how to motivate to reflect.

Proceedings of {ECTEL} meets {ECSCW} 2013, the Workshop on Collaborative Technologies for Working and Learning, Paphos, Cyprus, September, 21, 2013

CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2013

Konferenz
With this workshop, we brought together the European communities of technology-enhanced learning, which typically meets at the ECTEL, and of computer-supported cooperative work, which typically meets at the ECSCW. While the ECTEL community has traditionally focused on technology support for learning, be it in formal learning environments like schools, universities, etc. or in informal learning environments like workplaces, the ECSCW community has traditionally investigated how computers can and do mediate and influence collaborative work, in settings as diverse as the typical “gainful employment” situations, project work within university courses, volunteer settings in NGOs etc. Despite overlapping areas of concerns, the two communities are also exploiting different theories and methodological approaches. Within this workshop, we discussed issues that are relevant for both communities, and have the potential to contribute to a more lively communication between both communities.

Reflective Learning at Work - A Position and Discussion Paper

Proceedings of the 1st European Workshop on Awareness and Reflection in Learning Networks (ARNETS'11), Reinhardt, W., Ullmann, T., Scott, P., Pammer, V., Conlan, O., Berlanga, A., CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2011

The relevance of reflection for learning has long been recognised, and there is a substantial body of theoretical work on reflection. However, many questions regarding reflection at the workplace are stillopen, especially regarding the actual occurrence of reflection in differentworkplaces, and the efficient support for reflection. In our ongoing work to examine the relevance of reflective learning atwork in various organisations and to design technological support, wehave collected and discussed existing literature on reflective learning.Within this paper, we discuss relevant and open issues in four majortopical areas that are relevant to the above research goal, namely (i) thereflection process , (ii) the various scopes of reflection such as individualand organisational learning, (iii) the context or setting in which reflectionmight take place and (iv) how we can facilitate and scaffold reflectionby means of technology. We aim to provide a basis for discussion and toillustrate that research on reflection, especially in the context of work, isfar from finished.
