Informer is the quarterly newsletter of the BCS Information Retrieval Specialist Group (IRSG) and one of the most important media in this area. Its aim is to provide insights and inspiration to researchers and professionals working in all aspects of search and information retrieval. The autumn newsletter features an article about the Know-Center.

Information retrieval counts to the the main research activities of the Knowledge Discovery team at the Know-Center where the research content is directly generated from the needs of the industry. The best examples therefore are the EU projects EEXCESS and CODEThe goal of the EEXCESS project is to bring long tail content closer to the users. The overall goal of the CODE project is to generate machine readable Linked Open Data that serve as the foundation for web-based, commercially oriented ecosystems.
